19 abril la fiscalía de Puerto Plata recibió una querella penal de Ambiorix Vargas Gonzalez, un humilde transportista de Cabarete, contra el imputado Gabriel Mora, Director de la Junta Distrital de Cabarete, mejor conocido como Canoa. La querella surgió del incidente de 15 de marzo de este año cuando se alega que Canoa, en una furia típica, disparó varios tiros al querellante y sus acompañantes por no estar conforme con la operación del auto de Sr. Vargas acerca del auto estacionado de Canoa.
Hasta ahora la medida de coerción contra Canoa para este incidente fue limitada a una fianza de RD$100,000 y la prohibición de salida del país. El querellante pide ahora “que se le imponga un año de prisión preventiva toda vez que se ha demostrado que el Sr. Gabriel Mora es una persona que no puede vivir en sociedad y que se ha convertido en una persona altamente peligrosa.” Según la querella el artículo 309-3 del código penal establece que el acta de violencia de Canoa es punible con cinco a diez años de reclusión. Por daños materiales y psicológicas, la querellante hace una demanda civil por RD$25,000,000.
